in office work from home or hybrid what do CTOs think

“People today really value workplace flexibility and remote work because it allows them to focus their energies on work and life as opposed to commuting or other complications due to geography.”

– Ken Matos, Vice President of Research, Life Meets Work

More than ever before employees have reached the threshold where they know what they really want.

And of course, there’s no hesitation in voicing out their demands.

If a company fails to satisfy their expectations, there’s no hesitation in throwing away the job behind their backs.

No wonder jumping from one job to another has become a trend religiously followed by the millennials and Gen Z-ers.

Hybrid Work Is the Next Normal

hybrid work model

When the question “what working model do you anticipate for your organisation in the coming year?” to the tech leaders, the above was their answer, where a winning majority voted for the hybrid work model.

Hence, it is not that big a deal for the CTOs to find out that workplace flexibility is the major thing that the employees demand.

Working from office, following the 8 hours traditional work timings have now become ancient.

And beyond that, the above mentioned have become the prime reasons for companies getting a whack in employee retention.

Reportedly, the majority (52%) of IT and engineering leaders anticipate that their team structures will follow a hybrid work model until the end of the year.

And close to a third (31%) believe their team structure will continue to be fully remote, while only 17% believe they’ll be in-office full time.

Companies with hybrid work model are sealing the victory!

So, evidently companies with hybrid work model have found the key to increased productivity and efficiency.

While the majority of organizations will continue to operate remotely for the remainder in one way or another, enabling a “digital-first, remote-first” mentality is critical for success.

It’s also clear that “anywhere operations” models remain vital for organizations to retain talent.

The Great Resignation

Companies with hybrid work model are on the winning side where as for the other CTOs it’s on the verge of becoming a losing game.

To second that we have the reports of Morning Consult survey stating, almost 40% of polled Americans would quit their job if their bosses weren’t flexible about their organization’s work-from-home policies.

To add fuel to the fire, an April survey by FlexJobs found that 58% of 2,100 respondents would “absolutely” look for a new job if they couldn’t continue remote work in their current role.

Only 2% of its respondents said they wanted to work in the office full-time.

So, if you can see the big picture it is obvious that just like The Great Fire caused a blast in the history The Great Resignation is in store to wreak havoc in the history of the world.

Your Team and the Power of the Cloud

Clod-based tech solutions are not entirely new to the market. But they have gained traction in the recent years.

The Virtual Machines (VMs), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), collaboration tools and apps that can be accessed from anywhere that has a secure internet connection, allowing for “business as usual” — even in unusual circumstances.

In addition to increasing flexibility these cloud based tech have much in store for the future. The administration and management becomes easy because of the centralized systems.

Beyond that, they come with a guarantee of enhanced storage cells and a bulwark cyber security.

Cloud-based systems or cloud computing that securely centralize customer information and internal tools are just an example of operations that will allow for business to be accessed, delivered, and enabled from anywhere.

The era of collaboration tools!

Eventually, CTOs must equip team members with cloud-based collaboration tools to ensure effective and efficient collaboration.

It becomes imperative for CTOs like you because it ensures that when there is a problem, everyone is on the same page.

What else do a CTO need than to be able to touch the bottom of an issue without sweat!

Aside from the scope of work, these collaboration tools enable team members to connect with each other more effectively, promoting engagement and connection in a remote or hybrid working environment.

The IT Help Desk

Reportedly, 64% of consumers claim that 24/7 service is the most helpful Chabot functionality. It further creates a world in which businesses aren’t limited by “regular” hours of operation.

Automating support services (such as IT and HR inquiries) with the use of chatbots may be another key tool to getting team members the support they require swiftly, with 24/7 availability, as we work remotely.

Implementing chatbots to support password resets and account unlocks onspite of making it a burden to our IT help desk will increase the efficiency many-fold.

Apart from that, it helps the IT help desk to focus more on the tasks which need a lot of attention which will help them keep their enthusiasm intact.

Evidently, you can see that your IT service desk team members are more engaged post-chatbot implementation, largely due to their ability to focus on more challenging work.

And in turn, you will experience a much reduced Employee Attrition Rates overall.

The Importance of Security

Security is fickle!

Startled with that statement? But it has become the truth recently.

Why so? Because of the drastic raise in the pace of cybercrimes and malware attacks.

Not one industry is spared from this fiasco which is already making history on its own.

As already mentioned, the VDI is hosted in a secure cloud environment, it can be deployed quickly and easily through a unified approach, thereby streamlining the workload on IT teams during the deployment process and beyond.

In this new hybrid-work world, CTOs should be aware of their team members’ place(s) of work. While cloud computing allows you to work from anywhere, security should never be an afterthought.

Leaders in technology must educate themselves and their teams on the dangers of lax security. A wise CTO will not ignore the cruciality of Cybersecurity!

Teaching best practises for safety and security, such as always locking computers, encrypting network passwords, and keeping devices (personal or otherwise) up to date with the latest security updates, can mean the difference between a normal and a very bad day at work.

Take the time to put these lessons into practise — your employees and customers will thank you in the long run!

Conduct Frequent Check-Ins

Treating employees benevolently shouldn’t be viewed as an added cost that cuts into profits, but as a powerful energizer that can grow the enterprise into something far greater than one leader could envision.

– Harold Schultz – founder and former CEO of Starbucks

A good CTO knows how important it is to make the well-being and engagement of the employees a top priority.

Taking care of them and making them know that you think about their well-being by introducing really beneficial plans for them will make their hearts smile.

And the second thing that should hit them hard is the recognition and appreciation from your side.

Going an extra mile to put a smile on the talented employees face can work wonders!

Ensuring that the voices of the employees are heard, confirming that the rewards have reached the hands of the deservant employees are good niches to start with.

Retaining top talents by implementing the trendy schemes and flexible plans like the companies with hybrid work model should really be prioritised.

Wishing your employees “good day” when they start their work and “good bye” when they leave for home will trigger a lot of changes.

Go on then offer them good perks, so that they never think og leaving you!

What does the study say?

A recent study – on highlighting the major differences that employees face because of the swift shift from on-site working experience to working in an entirely different remote or hybrid work model – has revealed the following.

Respondents considered the following to be the top components of a thoughtful remote check-in from a manager or company leader:

  • The manager asking how they can help the employee (60%),
  • Sharing updates on the state of the business (51%),
  • Creating employee development plans and suggesting new learning opportunities (47%).

To sum up,

CTOs Must Be IT Cheerleaders!

Companies must equip their IT teams with technology that will support their work regardless of location in order to be successful in the future of work (and life).

To effectively enable their teams, CTOs must act as cheerleaders for their IT teams, assessing which technology is working well and which isn’t.

As the world continues to be affected by many historical fiascos like the pandemic, brands should seize this opportunity to develop a workforce strategy that incorporates the best of various technologies (and the workstyles they enable) in order to better prepare for the future.
